Should you wish to explore additional music on the theme of the crucifixion, we offer two explorations of Marcel Dupré’s extraordinary originally improvised suite of meditations based on the challenging poetic texts of Paul Claudel, Le Chemin de la Croix. This music began life in 1931 as a very successful concert improvisation at the Conservatoire in Brussels. Dupré later wrote down what he recalled of that improvisation and the result subsequently was published by Durand and has been performed widely ever since.

This program features a single reader. (Barry Busse and performer/instrument Douglas Butler at St. John’s Abbey Church, Collegeville, MN): Program #8612
